What Is Norethisterone?
Norethisterone is a pill that can help delay your period. It’s part of a group of medicines called progestogens. These pills act like the hormone progesterone in your body, which is responsible for stopping your periods. Each Norethisterone pill has 5mg of norethisterone in it.
How Does Norethisterone Work?
During your menstrual cycle, the level of the hormone progesterone can change. Near the end of your cycle, progesterone levels drop, causing the lining of your womb to break down and come out as your period. Norethisterone works like natural progesterone and tells your body not to break down the womb lining. This stops ovulation and prevents your period from happening.
How to Take Norethisterone?
To delay your period with Norethisterone, you need to take one 5mg pill three times a day. Start taking the pills three days before your period is due to begin.
When Will Your Period Return After Stopping Norethisterone?
Usually, your period should come back within 2-3 days after you finish your Norethisterone pills.
What If Your Period Doesn’t Return After Stopping Norethisterone?
If your period doesn’t come back three days after you stop taking Norethisterone, contact a doctor right away. You shouldn’t take Norethisterone for more than 17 days.
