Description
What is Lansoprazole and what is it used for?
Lansoprazole is a medication used to treat acid reflux or heartburn. It belongs to a group of medicines called “proton pump inhibitors” that help ease symptoms like chest pain and inflammation.
What is Acid Reflux (GORD)?
Acid Reflux, or Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD), occurs when stomach acid escapes into the tube connecting the stomach to the mouth (the oesophagus). This causes inflammation and a burning sensation in the chest as the acid moves back into the throat. Normally, there’s a barrier to stop the acid from entering the oesophagus, but in GORD, this barrier isn’t working properly.
How does it work?
Lansoprazole works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces, which helps reduce heartburn symptoms and prevents acid from entering the oesophagus.
How should I take Lansoprazole?
Take this medicine every day for four weeks and continue for another four weeks if you’re not fully healed. It’s best to take it in the morning, at least 30 minutes before eating. Swallow the tablets whole with water and do not break or chew them, as this will affect how the medicine works.
