What is Lyclear Dermal Cream?
Lyclear Dermal Cream is a topical medication used to treat skin conditions such as scabies and pubic lice (crab lice) along with their eggs. Its active ingredient, permethrin, is effective in killing these tiny mites.
What are scabies and crab lice (pubic lice)?
- Scabies causes intense itching, particularly at night, and leads to red or raised spots on the skin. While these spots may be less visible on darker skin, they can still be felt. The rash typically begins between the fingers and can spread across the body, avoiding the head. Though not serious, scabies is highly contagious and may take up to 8 weeks for symptoms to appear. If one household member is infected, everyone should be treated, even if asymptomatic. Individuals can return to work or school 24 hours after treatment.
- Crab lice (pubic lice) also lead to itching, especially at night. Signs may include small black specks in underwear and tiny blue or blood spots on the skin from bites. Crab lice are about 2mm long and primarily found in pubic hair but can also inhabit coarse body hair such as underarm hair, chest hair, or facial hair. They are transmitted through close body contact, often during sexual activity.
How do I use Lyclear Dermal Cream?
Apply a thin layer of the cream to clean, dry skin, avoiding the head and face unless facial hair is affected by scabies. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes, throat, nostrils, genitals, and open wounds. If the cream gets into these areas, rinse immediately with water. Leave the cream on for at least eight hours, preferably overnight.
Typically, a single application suffices, but if symptoms persist, reapply after two weeks. Note that itching may continue for several weeks even after the scabies mites have been eliminated.
