Phenergan begins to work within about 20 minutes of taking it.

The effects can last between 12 to 24 hours.

 

How should I take Phenergan?
Adults should take one tablet daily, preferably at night. Only take Phenergan when necessary, such as when you’re having trouble sleeping or experiencing hay fever symptoms.

 

Who can’t take Phenergan?
Before using Phenergan, consult your doctor if you:

• Have had an allergic reaction to promethazine or any other medication
• Suffer from primary angle-closure glaucoma, difficulty emptying the bladder, epilepsy, or seizures
• Have difficulty digesting certain sugars
• Are planning to have an allergy test soon, or can’t drink alcohol
• Are trying to get pregnant

 

Does Phenergan cause any side effects?
Some mild side effects include:

• Daytime drowsiness
• Nightmares
• Dizziness
• Trouble concentrating
• Headaches
• Phenergan can also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so be cautious.

 

If you’re 65 or older, you may experience more side effects, like confusion, dry mouth, blurry vision, and difficulty urinating.

 

Serious side effects (rare but possible) require immediate medical attention:

• Yellowing of the skin or eyes (liver problems)
• Unusual bruising or bleeding
• Stiff muscles or strange facial/tongue movements
• Severe allergic reactions (e.g., trouble breathing, rash, swelling in the face or throat)
