Description
What is Senokot and when is it used?
Senokot is a medicine containing Senna, which comes from a plant. It helps with short-term relief from occasional constipation when other treatments haven’t worked.
Who can use Senokot Tablets?
Senokot is suitable for people who are over 12 years old and dealing with constipation.
What causes constipation?
Constipation has many causes, and sometimes it’s not easy to figure out why. Common reasons for constipation include not eating enough foods with fibre, not drinking enough liquids, not getting enough exercise, side effects of some medications, and feeling anxious, stressed, or depressed.
How do I treat constipation?
If you’re constipated, first, try changes in your diet and lifestyle. You can drink more fluids, eat foods with fibre, and stay active, like going for a daily walk or run. If that doesn’t help, you might try a bulk-forming laxative like Fybogel or an osmotic laxative like Movicol or Laxido. If you have soft stools but still find it hard to go, you can use Senokot for a short time.
What is the recommended dosage for Senokot?
Take one to two tablets at night before you go to bed. If it’s your first time using Senokot, start with one tablet, and if needed, increase to two. If your constipation keeps going after two weeks, stop taking Senokot and speak to your doctor.
When should Senokot not be used?
Senokot isn’t suitable for people under 12, unless a doctor recommends it; those with allergies to senna or any ingredients in the product; people with bowel, stomach, heart, or kidney issues; anyone already using another laxative; and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Does Senokot help with weight loss?
Stimulant laxatives like Senokot don’t help with losing weight, and they shouldn’t be used for that purpose. To learn about safe ways to manage your weight, talk to your doctor.
How should I store Senokot?
Store Senokot in a cool, dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C.
