Description
What is Tamiflu and What’s It For?
Tamiflu is a medication used to treat and prevent influenza (flu) in adults, teenagers, children, and babies. It contains the active ingredient oseltamivir, which inhibits the spread of flu viruses in the body, easing flu symptoms and aiding in recovery.
How Does It Work?
Oseltamivir in Tamiflu blocks an enzyme called neuraminidase, essential for flu viruses to multiply and spread. By hindering this enzyme, Tamiflu slows the virus’s growth, allowing the immune system to better combat the infection.
How Should I Use Tamiflu?
The dose depends on body weight. For individuals weighing 40 kg or more, the recommended dose to treat the flu is 75 mg twice daily for 5 days. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve. To prevent the flu, take one dose daily for 10 days with breakfast.
