What is Zomig and how does it work?

Zomig is a medication used to treat migraines. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triptans, with zolmitriptan as its active ingredient. It works by temporarily constricting the dilated blood vessels in the head, which are thought to contribute to migraines, thereby helping to relieve the headache during an attack.

 

When and how should I take Zomig?

Zomig is available in several forms, including regular tablets, a nasal spray, and dispersible tablets. For best results, take the tablet with a glass of water as soon as your migraine begins. Taking it before the onset of symptoms will not prevent an attack. The recommended dose is 2.5mg, and it can be taken with or without food. If the migraine recurs, you may take another tablet, but wait at least two hours after the first dose. Do not exceed two tablets in one day.

The Zomig nasal spray is ready to use; simply spray once into one nostril at the onset of your migraine. It typically takes around 15 minutes to start working. Dispersible tablets should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve.
